Héctor H. Hernández Maldonado

Born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico July 5th 1962, his interests on music are noticed at the early age of 3. His mother influenced him greatly and he chose plugged string instruments as his favorites. At the age of 10 he starts to learn guitar. His formal studies of classical guitar begin at the age of 14 with professor Héctor Busigó, followed by Raúl Rodríguez. He entered to the Conservatory of Music and during his college years he studies with Leonardo Egúrbida and José Rodríguez Alvira. He was awarded the Honor Medal by the Department of Strings at his graduation. He was a classmate of Iván Rijos.

He also took Master Classes with: Eliot Fisk, Alice Artz, Manuel Barrueco, David Tanenbaum and Alirio Díaz.

He has played at the Centro de Bellas Artes of San Juan, University of Puerto Rico (Bayamón and Ponce Campus), Teatro Arcelay of Caguas, Museum of Art of Ponce,  Juan Morel Campos Music Institute, School of Fine Arts Auditory in Ponce, Castillo Serrallés, and many other important places. He also recorded for TV Channel 6 two times. one of them was for the program "Desde mi Pueblo" on 1993 at Ponce.

Actually, Hernández outstands as a guitar virtuoso and  as a fine classical guitar, mandolin and puertorrican cuatro teacher at the Juan Morel Campos Music Institute. He also offers private courses around Puerto Rico of other plugged strings instruments.

Héctor Hernández plans to play in Puerto Rico and around the world. He plans to record a CD on the next two years and his dream is to play in Spain, United States and Latin America.
